Fertilization techniques for pineapple

Pineapple is a perennial herbaceous fruit tree plant. It grows robustly, is highly adaptable and has fewer pests and diseases. High yield, fast income, short production cycle, benefits in the year of planting. The cost of renting land is relatively high. We can plant pineapples before the rubber has a shade forest. This does not affect the growth of rubber trees, not only saves land rent, but also increases economic income.

A、Selection of pineapple garden land

Pineapple gardening is advisable to choose 15 to 30 ° sloping land planting. It is also suitable for planting in a place with convenient transportation and deep fertile and loose soil.

B、The reclamation of the whole land

It is good for the growth of pineapple. However, we need to eradicate the weeds. This will prevent the growth of pineapples from being affected by weed growth at a young age after planting. The deep tillage needs to reach 30cm, which is a key measure to obtain a good yield. The border type of pineapple is mainly flat. This means that after full reclamation, the borders are divided by distance and the borders within the borders. The border is about 100cm, the width of the border is about 30-40cm and the depth is about 25cm.

C、The selection of pineapple varieties

The pineapple varieties we choose should be marketable, have good taste, large fruit, shallow eyes and high sugar content. Generally, we choose Caine and Philippine varieties for planting.

1、Seedling propagation

Pineapples are generally propagated asexually using various bud types. The propagation material must be selected from varieties with inherent good characteristics, sturdy stems, high number of leaves and free from pests and diseases. In particular, robust plants that are free of pink mesquite. Seedlings of pineapple can be propagated by sucking and crowning buds.

2、Propagation of suckers

The sucking buds used as pineapple seedlings should be fully mature. The plant’s leaves are hardened, open and about 25-35cm long, and when the brown rootlets appear after stripping the basal leaves, it is a sign of maturity. Generally, the fruit can be picked for seedlings after harvesting.

3、Crown buds propagation

Plants propagated with crown buds have large fruits, flowering in unison, and a more consistent maturity. Usually 24 months after planting before flowering and fruiting. The appropriate time to remove the crown buds is when the buds are 20cm long, the leaves are hardened, the upper part is open, the base is narrowed, and there are young roots that can be removed.

D、How to fertilize pineapple

According to the law of pineapple nutrient absorption and growth and development stages, it can be divided into the following fertilization periods.

1、The bottom fertilizer

The pineapple is the material basis for good growth. This requires a large amount of fertilizer, full of elements, high concentration and coordinated ratio. Stable manure, compost, soil fertilizer, composted and processed garbage fertilizer, green manure and cake fertilizer can be used. We need to add the right amount of chemical phosphorus, potassium and magnesium fertilizer when fertilizing. Nitrogen deficiency and low calcium effective phosphorus red soil and brick red soil land. Apply 3.5~4 tons of stable fertilizer, 150~200 kg of calcium superphosphate, 15~20 kg of potassium sulfate and 0.8~1 kg of magnesium sulfate per mu. At the same time, add two parts of topsoil together and mix well, and apply into the ditch. Finally, plant the seedlings.

2、Basic fertilizer

Base fertilizer is the basic fertilizer to supply the growth and development of pineapple. It is also the material condition to ensure the next year’s production and quality. This is why there is a saying that “one base is better than three chases”. We usually apply the basal fertilizer after the second crop of fruit harvesting. When applying base fertilizer, first open a good fertilizer trench in the foot or between rows. Then put dead leaves, fruit stalks, weeds or green manure in the bottom of the trench. Lastly, apply farmyard manure and chemical fertilizer mixed with two parts of topsoil. Generally apply 2~2.5 tons of soil fertilizer, 20~25 kg of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium ternary compound fertilizer and 25~30 kg of cake fertilizer per mu. Immediately after application, cultivate the soil. At present, the most used compound fertilizer in the market comes from Nagric.

3、Fertilizer

①Strong shoot fertilizer

We generally apply the bud-strengthening fertilizer after harvesting the positive fruit. We use Dulux to apply to the soil at the foot of the stem or the base of the petiole with water. This can promote the growth of sucking buds.

②Fertilizer before flowering

We usually apply pre-flowering fertilizer before bud differentiation, around November. Apply 2~2.5 kg of stable fertilizer, 20~30 g of urea and 40~50 g of calcium superphosphate per pineapple plant. This will promote flower bud differentiation, increase the number of florets and enhance the plant’s ability to resist cold.

③Bud promotion fertilizer

We usually apply a bud-promoting fertilizer in January and trench it in at the base of the stem. The main fertilizer is phosphorus and potassium, mixed with half of the farmyard manure. Apply 0.8~1 kg per plant. This can promote bud fertilization and fruit enlargement.

④、Fertilizer for strong fruit and buds

We usually apply fertilizer after flowering and during the small fruit expansion period, around April to May. The main fertilizer is potassium and phosphorus, together with a small amount of nitrogen. The amount of fertilizer accounted for 1/5 of the annual fertilization, dry application in the foot of the stem ditch or with Dulux.

4、Foliar spray fertilizer

The leaves of pineapple have a special water storage structure and absorption function. Therefore, foliar spray fertilizer is particularly effective. Especially in the plant after sealing the rows of inter-root fertilization inconvenience, foliar spray fertilizer is an important way to supplement fertilizer. From May to July, we give foliar sprays of Dorel 1 to 2 times a month. This can significantly improve the sugar content and flavor of pineapples.

Pineapples require different fertilizers at different times, and the amount of fertilizer applied varies. So, you have to depend on the growth of the crop. For pineapple growers, reasonable fertilization is the key to ensure that the pineapple has sufficient nutrients to help it grow quickly.
